Sunday Review + Watchlist 1/25/26
Market Recap
I’m writing this as the snow is falling here in Dallas. I love when we get “real” winter weather. Anyways, let’s break down the markets. Last week was all about wild moves in commodities, specifically Gold and Silver, with the indices also pushing higher. The S&P 500 climbed about 0.7% and the Nasdaq jumped roughly 2.4%, even as the Russell 2000 dipped about 0.4% and traders watched natural gas futures spike roughly 70% to three‑year highs.
Under the hood, the standout equity moves came from chips, memory, and metals. INTC sank about 17% on Friday after issuing a weaker‑than‑expected outlook that reignited worries about its turnaround and AI positioning, while high‑beta memory names like SNDK, already up more than 100% year‑to‑date, stayed in the spotlight with a slight pullback on Friday.
At the same time, this feels like the calm before a real information storm: mega‑cap tech and AI bellwethers like Microsoft, Meta, Tesla, and Apple are queued up to report in the coming days, which means this quiet, range‑bound index tape could give way to bigger moves if those numbers and outlooks don’t line up with the early-year optimism.
Small-cap opportunities were plentiful this week, with IVF leading on a ~380% low‑float squeeze, SHPH and BTTC each putting up 100%+ biotech/fintech bursts, and TWG, SLGB, SXTP, PAVM, IOTR, MOVE, DRCT offering more classic gap‑and‑fade setups once morning momentum broke. IBRX, NAMM, and BGL stood out as true multi‑day runners rather than one‑and‑done volatility, moving higher over several sessions before providing nice backside moves. Overall the tape skewed toward strong front‑side early with respectable back‑side opportunity later in the move for shorts who waited on clear lower highs and failed breakouts.
Watchlist
Feels like it’s been the same tickers every week but can’t complain about big opportunities that keep cycling.
SLV 0.00%↑ Silver keeps blowing out and some big fintwit names have thrown in the towel which makes me think we might be close to the pullback. Futures also tagged the psychological $100 level. No reason to step in front, just wait for the trend to end.
IBRX 0.00%↑ Failed breakout over $8 then daily bar break under 6.90, closing at low on Friday. Could see more downside on this come Monday but not a full on fade.
BNAI 0.00%↑ Had a huge multi day breakout on Friday over 11.30s. I love when the breakout is over a big red sell off bar. But the crazy part is in afterhours, it went from $16 to $65! This should keep the momentum in small caps going. Will be looking for the short on Monday or breakdown later in the week.
GLD 0.00%↑ Keeping gold on watch for now but not as interested in it as the others.
SNDK 0.00%↑ Huge move. The AI-driven memory bull run may need to take a breather.
LMND 0.00%↑ Big breakout on Thursday. Will see how it builds over the next few days.
IREN 0.00%↑ Still love this datacenter name and it may be setting up for a secondary entry over $60.
Ok time to watch my beloved Bronco’s in the AFC Championship game!
